Description:
Body
The body is “all steel” including the running boards, fenders, trunk lid and doors. The roof exterior top was replaced by Delgado’s upholstery using black marine grade vinyl. All body panels were reworked to give a smooth flowing surface. All body gaps were set to ¼” and straightened. Reinforced the “A” pillar and then installed the Hagen hidden hinges and Bear claw latches. The metal running boards have been freshly recovered with the rubber full length covers. The steel spare tire cover has been reworked and includes all three body colors. (Note: Spare tire is not useable because of its age and bolt pattern.) The firewall has been recessed for a new style V8 engine along with floor modifications for the chassis. The trunk lid has been converted to a standard trunk (not a rumble seat) and aluminum hinges installed with gas struts.
Paint
The body paint is a base coat/clear coat system by Gen Rock. The fenders are a deep chocolate brown (solid), and the main body is a cream white. A black stripe is painted into the center horizontal line of the body that continues into the door jambs. All painted panels had three coats of clear applied. The metal three-piece spare tire cover has all three colors incorporated into the design. The dash is a solid high gloss black.
Frame
The frame is stock. It is painted in a black epoxy paint. The frames center “X” brace has two extra braces built in. The first is a support bar that doubles as a drive shaft loop and gives extra frame support. The second is a flat plate at the center of the “X” brace that adds strength.
Front and Rear Suspension
The front suspension is a Mustang II-type with power rack and pinion, lower strut bars and a fully welded in front crossmember with stamped steel control arms. The suspension has been further upgraded with Ride Tech Air Ride suspension at all four corners. The front and rear bags are controlled separately with a control panel located in the glove box. The control panel also has a gauge to monitor the tank pressure. The rear suspension consists of lower square box trailing arms with bushings and adjustable end joints. The diagonal link has Heim joint ends all supporting an 8” Ford rear end.
Engine and Transmission
The engine is painted in the same chocolate brown as the fenders and is a rebuilt 30 over small block Chevy 327 with Vortec heads and Summit 600 CFM carburetor with electric choke. It also has a Billet Specialties Tru-Trac serpentine drive and New Johnson radiator w/dual electric fans. The 700R4 transmission is controlled by a Lokar long shaft manual transmission simulator shifter. The distributor has been refitted with a Petronix electronic ignition system and external coil to retain an Old School look. The shorty headers empty into a 2” exhaust pipe system with an ‘X” pipe connection with Flowmaster 60 Series Delta Flow chambered mufflers.
Fuel System
The fuel tank is a composite unit with a sending unit that is accessible from the trunk. An electric fuel pump sends fuel through steel and rubber fuel lines to the low pressure fuel regulator. The original fuel filler neck has been retained in the driver’s rear fender light housing.
Brake System
The brake master cylinder is in the frame under the driver’s floorboard. It is a new dual reservoir system with new brake lines that run to the front disc brakes and rear drums. The brake pedal was customized to give the appearance of a brake and clutch pedal arrangement, complimenting the long Lokar automatic shifter that looks like manual transmission.
Wiring System
The entire wire harness is a new American auto wire builder unit. Battery has been relocated to the trunk.
Wheels and Tires
Steely wheels are painted the same chocolate brown as the fenders and have chrome trim rings with baby moon caps. The tires are Firestone wide white walls.
Interior
The interior has been fully redone by Delgado’s upholstery in dark chocolate brown leatherette. The glove box contains the air ride controls and still has room for papers. The gauges are newer style analog units for engine temperature, speedometer, fuel, oil and water. The steering column is a Ididit Retro fit unit with a 4” drop and banjo-type steering wheel. A Vintage Air A/C with Heat unit under the dash completes the Retro look.
Extra Options
The hood emblem has been upgraded to a “V8” emblem. The hood’s left and right side have extra chrome horizontal trim as well as a one-off “Ford” emblem in the trim. Front and rear vertical bumper guards have been installed. Large fog/driving lights have been installed on the front bumper. The head lights and fog/driving lights have chrome “eyebrows” installed on their upper edge. The turning signals have been hidden in the original horn location behind small chrome grills. A battery trickle charger connection has been installed off the driver’s side of the engine.
