Description:
1955 Chevy Cameo The first fleet side bed and the first truck to use fiberglass side panels on a truck bed. This is a very rare truck. The Cameo was only built in 1955-1958 and only 10,320 were made in that period. Very few remain. The truck was built to show the strength of fiberglass, for the Corvette had just come out, but the cost of the truck was much more than a person could afford in 1955. Only the well to do could afford it and it was not a farm truck but a city truck long before trucks were the norm in the city. This truck was built in the mid west my a hot rod shop as the shop truck. It went across Mecum back in 2014 and spent time in Honolulu. The inspection sticker still resides on the inter door frame dated 2013 from Honolulu. I purchased this vehicle out of a private collection in Missouri and have replaced the motor, trans, ring gear, radio, and some other upgrades. Miles on truck 5790. The motor and trans was installed at about 4000 miles ago for the gauge cluster was replaced prior to the new motor install. Truck is not tubbed so motor was detuned a bit. Could push 500HP if one wanted to adjust. All programable with the right equipment and programmer. Truck drives and shows great. The fit and finish is extremely well done and you will be hard pressed to find a gap that is out of place. No rubbing panels or missing paint. The fire wall and engine compartment is painted and clean. Motor and all its components well placed with the wires, control fuse boxes, and hoses hidden well. If a stainless or chrome bolt was needed it is in place. Original bed and taillight on this Cameo are in excellent condition as well as the cab , frame, and running gear. A lot has been done to bring this original looking truck up the the latest upgrade with out destroying the timeless body this truck possesses. You could attend a 100 car shows and only see 2 or 3 Cameo’s at best and I bet none are of this caliber.
